In the foothills of the southern Drakensberg nestles Castleburn a home to eland, reedbuck and 100 species of bird, who flock to the re-established wetlands.Spacious, thatched, architect-designed cottages, built of hand-hewn local stone, cluster around Lake Madingofani. Its shimmering surface reflects the rocky summits of the Garden Castle and is disturbed only by the breeze and the occasional trout jumping.

Castleburn offers visitors a piece of tranquility at the foot of the Southern Drakensberg mountains. With majestic mountain peaks as the resort’s beautiful backdrop, it is well equipped to answer the needs of every guest: cosy, thatched chalets and apartments are a haven for relaxing with family, while the resort itself is a delight for outdoor enthusiasts. Sports lovers in particular will relish the opportunities presented by the 22 ha Lake Madingofani. The area itself has plenty to keep visitors busy, from local arts and crafts to a cheesery. About the resort: The resort offers a fully licensed bar and an á la carte restaurant which is open for lunch and dinner. Light meals are also available. Additional facilities include a pool table, table tennis, trampoline, outdoor chess, darts, mini golf, games room, library and a jungle gym. Excellent trout fishing. Fishing tackle is available at reception (fly fishing tackle only may be used). There is a chipping range and rowing boats.
